Used halls are more in demand than ever. Prices for new steel and long delivery times make a reused structural frame an economical alternative for agriculture, trades and industry. At the same time, every tonne of reused structural steel saves energy and CO₂ compared with new production.
But not every used hall lives up to its advertisement. Missing structural calculations, unclear dimensions and unknown design loads bring building projects to a halt. That is why we present this hall with a complete TRS Hall Passport – and with a story that shows how THAL REUSE SYSTEMS works.
The story of this hall: purchased, dismantled, resold – and available again

THAL REUSE SYSTEMS has moved this hall once before. At the original site, Johann Thal had purchased two crane halls standing side by side for dismantling under his own responsibility. The first went to a buyer abroad. The second – this hall – he sold during the deconstruction, directly from the site, to a buyer in Germany.

That is exactly our business model: we buy selectively when we know the quality of a structure and who needs it. Our network of farmers, businesses, erection contractors and planners at home and abroad means that a hall often changes hands before the last component is on the ground. Two halls, two buyers, both sold before dismantling was complete – this project is a prime example.
The structure was dismantled and loaded by our trusted hall erection contractor – clearly marked, properly stowed and secured. The buyer was a regular customer who had already bought his third used hall from us. The building permit for re-erection had already been granted – so the hall has already passed a permit procedure for its second site once. For business reasons the buyer subsequently did not pursue the project: given the economic situation, his existing storage capacity is currently sufficient. He therefore entrusted the stored structure to us for resale – because we know the hall, its documentation and the market.
For you as the new buyer this has a clear advantage: you are not buying anonymous goods from a classified ad. You are buying a hall that we purchased ourselves, accompanied during deconstruction and technically reviewed – right down to evaluating the handwritten structural calculations from 1982.
Occupational safety: planned, briefed, implemented
Every dismantling project starts with a project-specific safety concept based on the risk assessment. Every skilled worker and every helper is briefed before work begins and confirms the briefing with his signature. Collective protection comes first: on TRS2336CSC5, roof-edge protection and safety nets were installed before the first roof element was released. The hall floor had been cleared completely beforehand, traffic routes and danger zones were kept free, and all components – including the green Pfeifer crane bridge – were stored securely against tipping and rolling on designated areas until collection.

Our experienced team has a very good safety track record and works closely and constructively with clients, operators, health and safety coordinators and the statutory accident insurers. Clients and inspectors repeatedly confirm the professionalism, order and cleanliness on our sites.

Who this used steel hall is suitable for
With a 25 m clear span and an eaves height of around 7 m, the structure fits wherever space, manoeuvring area and lifting height matter.
- Warehouse and logistics hall: column-free floor space for racking, forklifts and truck access
- Production and assembly hall: with an optional 5 t crane runway for heavy components
- Handling and workshop hall: for metalworking, mechanical engineering, recycling or building-materials trade
- Agricultural multi-purpose hall: machinery, equipment or storage hall with large doors
- Smaller projects: the length can be adapted to your plot in 5.00 m steps
What buyers should know: The structure is supplied with trapezoidal roof liner sheets, without insulation, wall cladding or roof waterproofing. The roof has no purlins; for an envelope of sandwich panels, sheeting rails and, if necessary, purlins must be added. In 1982 the hall was designed for a snow load of 0.75 kN/m², roughly comparable to sk ≈ 0.94 kN/m² under today’s Eurocode. A new structural verification is required for your site – the existing documents make this step considerably easier and less expensive.
THAL REUSE SYSTEMS: buying and selling used halls through our network
For more than 20 years, Johann Thal has been buying and selling high-quality hall structures – from round-roof hangars and tennis halls to crane halls. THAL REUSE SYSTEMS is more than a listings portal: we buy ourselves, assess technically and bring hall and new site together.
How we work:
- Purchase: We buy halls for dismantling or structures that have already been dismantled – preferably when we can assess the object technically and know suitable buyers.
- Assessment: We evaluate building records, structural calculations and inspection logs and prepare the TRS Hall Passport with verified dimensions, weights and design loads.
- Deconstruction: Dismantling is carried out by experienced erection contractors from our network – according to a project-specific safety concept with documented safety briefing, with component marking on request.
- Marketing: We approach buyers at home and abroad in a targeted way – often before deconstruction is complete.
- Re-erection: On request, we arrange transport, structural design for the new site and erection including the envelope.
Also for owners: Do you have a hall you no longer use, or a building project that is not going ahead? Like the buyer of this hall, you can contact us. We examine purchase or resale and find the right buyer through our network.
Giving Structures a Second Life. – every reused hall saves resources, energy and time.
Frequently asked questions about buying a used steel hall
Is the hall available immediately? Yes. The structure has been professionally dismantled and is stored ready for transport in an intermediate storage facility in western Germany. We disclose the exact location to qualified prospects; a viewing can be arranged.
What documentation is available? Checked structural calculations from 1982 with addendum and inspection report, the floor plan including the 1991 extension, and the crane inspection log from 1983 to 2015. Qualified prospects receive the documents as PDF.
Do I need new structural calculations for re-erection? Yes. For every new site, a structural verification to Eurocode with the local snow and wind loads is required. The existing calculations provide the structural engineer with all sections and system dimensions.
Can I erect the hall shorter? Yes. The frame spacing is 5.00 m, and the length can be reduced in these steps.
How is the hall transported? The frame parts are at most 10 m long and weigh up to approx. 1.1 t. The frame columns fit haunch-up on a standard semi-trailer, and the rafter halves are secured in layers with timber spacers – this is how our trusted hall erection contractor already loaded the hall once. The trapezoidal sheets (approx. 17 m) and the optional crane bridge (approx. 24 m, approx. 11 t) require oversize transport.
Is the overhead crane ready for operation? The crane runway and crane bridge are available, the trolley and hoist are not. Operation requires a 5 t trolley with hoist and an inspection before commissioning.
How do you ensure occupational safety during dismantling? With a project-specific safety concept based on the risk assessment, a signed safety briefing for every skilled worker and helper, and collective protective measures such as roof-edge protection and safety nets. We coordinate closely with clients, operators, health and safety coordinators and the statutory accident insurers.
Does THAL REUSE SYSTEMS also buy halls? Yes. We buy halls for dismantling as well as dismantled structures and, on request, handle the resale through our network.
